ATHENS, Ohio — To provide further fundraising momentum for the proposed new academic services complex for Ohio University student-athletes, The Ohio Bobcat Club is excited to announce additional naming opportunities in support of the Campaign for Academic Excellence.

As part of the $6 million goal, of which more than $3.30 million has already been committed, additional naming opportunities begin with pledges of at least $2,500. In addition, recognition on the complex’s Wall of Honor is available for contributions of at least $1,000. Donors will be recognized appropriately in the indicated room/space for their gift to the Campaign.

A complete listing of both reserved and available naming opportunities associated with this impactful project is located on the Campaign’s exclusive website, www.CampaignForAcademicExcellence.com.

“This proposed project will transform our academic services area and provide a much more conducive learning environment for our student-athletes,” said Jim Schaus, Ohio Director of Athletics. “With the demands of having to balance their academic and athletic workloads, a specialized facility such as this is needed. Thank you to Perry and Sandy Sook for their generosity in laying the groundwork for the Campaign for Academic Excellence.”

In September 2014, the Sook family committed $2.25 million towards the proposed student-athlete academic center. Both Perry and Sandy are 1980 graduates of the Scripps College of Communication, with Sandy also earning her master’s in education from the Gladys W. and David D. Patton College of Education in 1982. In recognition of their lead gift, the academic center will be named in their honor (pending approval by the university’s Board of Trustees).

“We have had some early fundraising success and to date are over halfway to our goal,” said Ryan White, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development. “We especially encourage alumni and community members to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime campaign to ensure the continued quality of the academic experience for all Bobcats in every sport program. There are opportunities to make an impact on the project at a variety of giving levels.”
